Hailed as a "master of her instrument" and praised for her "rich and warm interpretations" (The Clarinet), Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Korneisel Jaegers has a strong interest in world music, expansion of the clarinet repertoire, and diversification of the canon, particularly through the promotion of works by Turkish composers. A solo, chamber, and orchestral clarinetist and music educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area in California, Dr. Jaegers is a faculty member at Amabile School of Music (San Francisco and Moraga) and Notes Music Academy (Oakland), as well as a Mentor Artist and Music Specialist with Youth In Arts. She currently performs as principal clarinet of the Golden Gate Park Band, the Friedland Recording Ensemble (formerly the Rhode Island Recording Ensemble), Araya: Sounds of Latin America, the DesertLake Duo, and the Diablo Big Band. She also performs regularly with other Bay Area ensembles. Previously, Dr. Jaegers performed with the Walla Walla Symphony Orchestra (Walla Walla, WA), the Mid-Columbia Symphony Orchestra (Richland, WA), and the Tri-Cities Big Band (Kennewick, WA). Dr. Jaegers serves as the Musician/Worker Relations and Music Manager for FRE and is a clarinet clinician for the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band. Dr. Jaegers has commissioned new works for clarinet by American composers Zachary Friedland and Tristan Perez and arrangements for Araya by Mexican composer Manuel Hurtado. An international performer since 2011, Dr. Jaegers has toured in countries throughout Europe. She frequently performs and presents at the International Clarinet Association's ClarinetFest® and the American Single Reed Summit and is an audio and music reviewer for the ICA's journal, The Clarinet.
Dr. Jaegers maintains an active private studio in the Bay Area and has taught private clarinet lessons since 2013. Her students have consistently received the highest ratings at Solo and Ensemble festivals. Many have gone on to play in college bands and pursue a career in music. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Clarinet Performance from The Ohio State University, a Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance from Michigan State University, and two degrees—a Bachelor of Music degree in Clarinet Performance and a Bachelor of Arts degree in World Languages and Cultures (Spanish)—from Iowa State University.
